Tyee acted as the design-build contractor for a 16,000 square foot train shed cover for the Cranbrook History Centre/Cranbrook Museum. The 80–100 year old trains were in place during construction presenting many design and construction challenges. Phase 1 of the shed covers three separate tracks by three cars long. The space between tracks and trains was limited and complicated access for all of construction Heavy Timber bents are a mix of traditional and bolted connections and all were prefabricated off-site. A total of 48,600 fbm of heavy timber are included in Phase 1. The 22,000 square foot roof was panelized and prefabricated on the ground and installed over the existing trains as finished components to avoid overhead damage to the trains. Phase 2 is awaiting grant funding and will be an additional 360 feet long, covering only 2 tracks.
